Software
requirements to run zone alarm are Windows 2000/XP. With a Pentium 3 450 MHz
computer or higher.
They do offer
complete support from their website incase you would like to learn more about
how to run zone alarm.
One of the biggest complaints about this software in our
zone alarm review was, since 2003 has been the number of alerts a user
has to go through when something is trying to access their computer.
This is easily
controlled by the options menu and should not be look at as a nuisance.
Since these users
seem to get so many alerts they think that someone is trying to break into their
computer.
This is usually not
the case. Software on their computer or even a website they just visited on the
internet may be trying to communicate back with their computer.
Zone Alarm Review Explained!
There are over
50,000 ports on a computer for many different types of communication. Zone alarm
helps secure these ports and keeps hackers out.
Once you have zone
alarm installed you can always check to see how secure your computer is by going
to
grc.com
and run
the shields up test. This zone alarm review swears by it.
All in all, zone
alarm is very easy to work with even for the computer novice.
Even the first time
you start zone alarm you are presented with a getting started dialog help box.
Reading this is a definite must for anyone new to computers or firewalls.
For this zone alarm review we found the
graphical interface of zone alarm is very easy. You are presented with five easy
to see icons. These are alerts, lock, security, programs and configure.
The alerts box
allows you to configure the level of security you want from low to high.
The lock icon
allows you to cut off all internet activity.
Security, programs
and configure allow you to manipulate this firewall to your liking.
Zone alarm
is not a bad piece of software. However a software firewall
cannot ward off any attacks until they hit your computer. If you want better
security you will want a hardware firewall like you find in a router.
The other drawbacks
of a software firewall are they have to run off your computer taking up memory
and other resources.
Also with a
software program it is always possible that a crafty virus could always figure
out how to disable the firewall all together.
Zone alarm
has won awards
from pc magazine in May of 2006.
