Windows installer problems - How to
diagnose them!

Windows installer
problems can happen for a number of reasons. It can be very frustrating
when trying to install software and you get an installer error.
However there are a few things you can try before
you give up all together.
The first
reason is because the software is corrupt. |
This can happen often with third party software you find on
the internet.
The easiest thing to do here is to find an email address
for the company and let them know the software is bad and that you would like to
download it.
Hopefully you will get a response in a few days and they
fix the problem.
The next reason you may be having windows installer
problems is because you need to update windows.
Sometimes it all depends on the software you are trying to
download and install. However, if your copy of windows is not up to date this
could be the cause of the problem.
Simply download all the windows updates you need and then
try to install the software again and see if you still have windows installer
problems.
Another reason you may be experiencing problems is because
your computer has a virus.
Try and run a virus scan.
If you do find some viruses, clean them out and then try
installing the software once again.
You could also have spyware that could be causing windows
installer
problems.
Spyware can be a nasty nuisance that not only slows down
your computer but can also cause windows installer problems.
Download adaware and spybot, clear out whatever spyware you
find and then try to install your program once again.
You also may need to disable certain software like
antivirus and firewall programs. First try closing the program and them try
installing your software. These have been know to cause windows installer
problems.
If that does not work then you may have to uninstall these
programs all together, run the new software install and then reinstall your
other programs.
If you have a router, then this may also be a cause of
windows installer problems. Most routers today have firewalls installed on them
which can block certain ports.
This can happen if the software you are installing needs to
do updates while installing. The best fix here is to take your router out of
your network, install the program and then add the router back in.
Of course you may want to take a look at the router and see
what it is causing the windows installer problems. It may be blocking a port you do not want
blocked.
Simply log on to your router as administrator and check
what ports it is blocking. If you are not sure how to do this then call the
router company.
The last thing to check are, make sure your computers date
and time are set to the proper setting.
This can block certain installs if the software cannot read
the proper date and time.
Above we have listed the most common causes for windows
installer problems. Take each step one by one.
This will help you diagnose the windows installer problems and you may just
find the fix.
