Securing wireless network

Securing wireless network is very important to your computer networking security.  If a wireless network is not secure then anyone close to your home can have access to your network and the internet.

Of course this is ok if you take a share all attitudes for your neighbors.

If you do decide to share your network with the neighborhood then you will need to make sure your files are secure from others getting and seeing them.

You can read our article here about network setup.  how to setup a home network

There has also been known instances where people drive around looking for open wireless networks to see if they can break in.

These people drive from location to location with a laptop and a wireless card.

Once they spot an unsecured network then try to break in. The fact of how much it happens remains to be knows, however it can happen.

Securing wireless network consists of providing a key from your router to anyone on your network that you allow access.

Simple store bought routers from Linksys and D-link do already provide this kind of protection.

If you are not sure about how to secure the network and have no experience with computers you will need to call the maker of the router.

However if you do have experience then this is what you can do.

First you will need to gain access to your router and get to the administration screen.  Just go to your browser and type in the routers IP address.  Then you will see the welcome screen where you will need to type in your user name and password.

Depending on the router you have you will see a security tab.  It is under this screen you can then begin to setup the encrypted key or WEP protection.

This protection will ask any user if they have a key to gain access to the network.  Just make sure you check this kind of protection.

Just make sure you read the manual and setup whatever protection your router calls for.  Remember people in your neighborhood can access your wireless network if it is not secure.

This will all help in securing wireless network.
