Partition hard drive

If you want to partition hard drive, you must know a few things about your computer first.

Do you have an older computer or a newer computer?  Believe it or not this is important as to how and what you will use to partition a hard drive.

First, older computers had limitations as to how they could partition or format their hard drives.

They were limited by the system bios and therefore could not be partitioned into a larger disk with one large partition

So, you needed to break the drive into at least a couple of partitions.

Modern day computers can partition hard drive into one large disk if you want or you can break the drive into four drives if you like and run different operating systems.

With that said.  If you are looking to run a couple of different operating systems on your computer you should understand that it may limit your computers performance.

If you have an older computer this can be a big deal.  However, it is not too much for newer computers.

If you just bought a new hard drive you can partition hard drive with the software that came in the package.

All you have to do is install the new drive and use the floppy disk that came with the drive and you should be all set and ready to install an operating system.

If you are looking for more control over the partition hard drive then you may want to use the fdisk command in windows.  The fdisk command will give you more control over the amount of space you can assign to a drive.

Fdisk is a dos command but can still be used by even the newer windows operating systems.

To run fdisk all you need to do is boot into dos and type the word fdisk at the dos prompt and the partition hard drive fdisk program will start to run.

There is also other software that you can buy on the market that will allow you to partition hard drive it can be easy to partition hard drive of a newer computer.
