This scam has been known to affect eBay
sellers also. What the scam artist will do is search eBay’s
website and find someone selling something significant such as a
motorcycle.
They will then email the sellers asking
about the product they are selling.
Once they ask their questions they continue
on to say they want to buy what they are selling but they
need the seller to wire money to them because they have the funds
but they are in another offshore bank.
They claim they either have to pay
taxes or cannot get the money right away.
They ask the seller to wire enough money to
them so they can get their money out of the off shore bank.
They go on to claim in this typical nigeria
scam that once they are able to unlock their funds they will
wire the full amount of the money to the seller. Of course this
is a basic version.
However you should be alarmed at anyone
asking you to send them money. Never send anyone money anywhere
in the world at anytime from just an email. It sounds
crazy but people have fallen for this scam.
You should look at everything like a
regular business transaction and not as you need to help
someone.
You are selling something for a reason and
if that person cannot come up with the funds then you must
forget it.
There are many more versions of this typical scam being
developed all the time.
Please remember to keep your guard up
and never do business from just an email and you will avoid any
Nigeria scam.
