Install new hard drive

If you want to install new hard drive in your computer, it is actually pretty easy to do so.  You just have to keep a few things straight and you will be all set to go.

First however, if you haven’t bought a new hard drive yet, you will want to purchase the best you can get for your budget.

You will want one with a good amount of space.  If you store many music or video files then you will want at least a 200 gig hard drive to easily store all of your files

Western digital, Seagate and Maxtor are all good choices and you can find them at your local computer store or on the internet.

The steps to install new hard drive are easy but let’s go over them real quick so you have an overview of how to install your new drive properly.

Here are the steps for install new hard drive:

  1. Make sure you ground yourself when working on your computer.
  2. Remove the computer case.
  3. Locate the hard drive
  4. Remove the hard drive cables.
  5. Remove hard drive screws.
  6. Take out hard drive.
  7. Install new hard drive.
  8. Re-install cables and computer cover.

The one thing you will need to do is make sure you ground yourself before working on your computer and install new hard drive.

You can buy a wrist band to ground yourself online or at a local computer store.  This is an important step that you should not overlook.  Many people do only to slip and cause static electricity that burns out something on their computer.

Remove the computer is pretty self explanatory.  After you do so, just make sure you connect your static wrist band to the computer chasse.

Locate the hard drive.  You will see the hard drive usually near the front of the computer with the cables connecting to the motherboard, very important to install new hard drive.

Next, remove the cables that are connecting to the hard drive.  Be careful here.  The IDE cable and the molex connectors can be a little hard to remove.

Do not try to force them.  They will ease out if you let them.

Next to install new hard drive, just remove the hard drive screws that are located on both the sides of the hard drive and take the heard drive out.

Again make sure you are easy here and have your wrist bad connected to the computer chasse.

Next, install the new hard drive and replace the cables just as you took them off the old hard drive.

Once everything is in place, install the cover and you should be ok to go and you have just installed your new hard drive.

Now all you will need to do is format the drive and partition it if you need to and then install your operating system and you have just install new hard drive.
