credit card scams

How not to fall for them!

Credit card scams can and do happen on the internet.  There are a few ways these scammers attempt to steal personal information and then collect their payoff.

Anyone should be aware of these scammers and how they operate.

The first type of credit card scams may happen when someone visits a webpage.  This webpage is setup to look like a legitimate company operating on the internet.

Someone may receive an email that talks about a great credit card offer from what looks like a great company.

That person then visits the webpage and plugs in their personal information.  The problem however is that webpage is not from a legitimate company it is part of credit card scams.

The address and everything looks ok in the email but when the link is clicked it passes over to a spoofed webpage.  It can be a webpage set up by scammers.

The way to tell if the web page is legitimate or not is to look at the top address bar where you would type an address when surfing web pages.

If you were expecting to see a company such as bank xyz and the webpage states something else.

It’s a good bet that you are now in front of a hacker scam page.  DO not load in any personal information at this point.

You should also call the company you wanted to do business with and tell them about what you found.  Remember when you get emails from out of no where; never just blindly click on the links.

The next credit card scams, which is less common but does happen involves chatting.

This scammer may build up a relationship with someone that lives close by and learn all they can about them.

Once the scam artist gets enough information then may steal their garbage in hopes of recovering credit card mail offers.

Once this happens to someone with good credit their identity is stolen and the scammer may go on a shopping spree.

Other types of credit card scams on our list happens over the phone.  Scammers may call people and say they are from a legitimate company.

They may target people who have accounts elsewhere and say they are from that company or they may just call out of the blue and say they are from another credit card company with a great offer.

While it is true that legitimate credit card companies do solicit over the phone, scammers use the phone as a tool also.

If you are ever interested in an offer over the phone, the best policy is to ask for a phone number of the company and call them back.

This way you can make sure you are dealing with a real company and not some credit card scams from half way around the world.

Remember credit card scams do happen.  You should always make it a point to know everything about a company before doing business with them.  Never just give out any information over the phone or the internet.  Always check the company out first so you don't fall for credit card scams.
