Computer Shutdown Problem!

A computer shutdown problem could be the work of a computer virus or a few other things.

If you can get into windows and it is running fairly stable, then you will want to run a virus scan first of all.

If you cannot get into windows then try and see if you can get into safe mode.  Do this by pressing F8 at your computer startup if you have windows 98 and above.

Safe mode will not load any drivers so you can troubleshoot any hardware, drives and software problems.  Usually if you can get into safe mode then you do not have any major windows issues.

Each version of windows can have its own shutdown problems.  Windows 98 for example had computer shutdown problem from many badly written drivers and memory problems.

If your computer shutdown is slow then you need to eliminate things one by one until you find the problem.  As stated before one of the most likely culprits is a badly written device driver.

There could also be a problem with the computer registry.  The windows registry needs to be clean in order for windows to run smoothly.  This is best done by buying a registry cleaner program for your computer.

The best step to never having a computer shutdown problem is prevention.  Below is a list of action you should be taking at least once a month in order to keep your computer running good.

1.      Defrag the hard drive

2.      Keep the registry clean

3.      Run a virus scan

4.      Keep windows clean of files you do not use

You can keep your computer clean with a program like Norton System works.  Which also comes with Norton anti virus.

When you have computer shutdown problems with windows xp you can also try system restore.  This will help take your computer back a few days before the problem started.

Another thing you can try is running the sfc (system file checker) command from the start menu.  You will need your windows disk for this.

This will scan and verify that all your windows files are intact.  Just go to the start menu, click on run and type in sfc /scannow.  This will help with a computer shutdown problem.
