A computer router is very important for computer
security. Adding a router in your home or office will in effect
create a wall to your computer and the internet. This helps your computer be
invisible online.
If you do
not have a router then hackers can see your computer on the internet.
You may be secure at the computer level but it is still a door they can
see and try to break into. |
You do not want this. You want to be in stealth mode. Where no
one can see you and try to break in.
This is accomplished by the computer router with a NAT
(network address translation) firewall. This is a software firewall within the
router. Make sure when you buy a router that it does have this firewall.
Most on the market today do.
Installing a computer router is very easy in the home network. All
you have to do is hook it up to your modem and plug your pc into one of the open
ports and you are good to go.
Most computer routers today come with very easy setup
instructions. However if you have trouble you can always call the manufacturer
you bought it from.
Some computer routers have been known to have issues with programs
like yahoo messenger and other communication type programs.
Usually this is
fixed with an update to the computer router. You will want to make sure your router has
the most up to date software.
When performing a computer router update you have to be careful. If
your computer is shut off or any other bad interruption happens while you are
updating, could render the router useless. Make sure to follow all the
instructions to the letter.
After you install your router and update it you will want
to check to make sure it is doing its job correctly.
